RAG & LEVI QUILTS

    My granddaughter just got married and I forgot to take a picture of that quilt so here's how it looked at the reception.  Her and her husband are avid hunters so I found some deer print and some flannel to compliment the  print.  It looked really cute spread out.  It's has mostly Levis on the back with some small blue gingham print.  They gave me a lot of their old Levis so it was fun to watch them find which ones were theirs.  In the middle of the back I put a piece of Levi with the back pocket on it.  It's a fun thing to do and they love it!        (The deer picture was a gift from someone else but it matched the quilt perfectly.)

I have really enjoyed making rag quilts.  I use flannel, cottons, and Levi material.  I even find that I enjoy cutting all the squares out, too.   I have made quilts with an 8x8 inch square and 6x6 inch square.  The callous on my thumb where I hold the scissors to cut the seams, shows my dedication to making rag quilts.  :-)

This one is a favorite.  I took scraps of  material that added color and dimension to the sqaures and added a design to each 8 inch square and also used small pieces of Levi.  It was a lot of work but I sure had fun creating the quilt.   This was made from flannel on the back and Levi and plaid flannel on the front.  I love the ant flannel and you might see it in other quilts, too.

An apple quilt

This is one of my 'Apple for the Teacher' quilts.

Another "Teacher Apple" quilt.  (Yes, I am a teacher by profession so enjoy making these for fund raisers.  This one was done to support Relay for Life.)

My little granddaughter got a Levi quilt with a flannel side, too.  Now she can sit out on the grass or use it on a picnic and feel the soft flannel and the Levi side will take care of the dirt and grass stains.

Some Crocheted Items

 I find it hard to sit and just watch TV or a movie .  Quilts aren't as easy to take with you so I always have a bag of yarn and enjoy making dish clothes, hot pads, stocking/beanie caps, and some hot pot holders.  I've also made several baby shawls and afghans.  Here are some pictures of some of my creations:

This stocking hat is made on a loom and I can make it larger.  i do have a smaller one but it barely fits a preemie it's so small.  I could make daughter and her doll a hat alike.

 These hats are like a beanie style hat but they fit nicely on your head.  I can also do a matching scarf to wear with your hat.









I love to make and use dish rags that have been crocheted.  I have several designs that I can use.  One is a shell pattern, another is an open double crochet stitch, and I can combine the open double crochet with several rows of single crochet.  It just depends on how thick you want you dish cloth.  I also can do the size according to what you enjoy using.  I love using variegated cotton yarn because it's so colorful but I can also use plain cotton yarn, too.

I like to make and use these double sided hot pads.
They also work nicely as hot pot holders on your nice wood table, too.

Grandchildren's Quilts

Guess what this grandson likes?

A granddaughter was in color guard so I made her a fleece throw with her school colors to take on the bus to keep warm on those cold Saturdays that she performed.   A grandson loved cars so I made him a fleece cover with cars on the front and blue fleece on the back.

One year I made all the grandchildren a quilt or a throw to snuggle up in.  The older girls picked their fabrics,which were to become their bedspreads.  The boys liked whatever I made for them.  :-)
Notice the girl's quilts/bedspreads, I tied them with yarn and also did a tie at the corners with narrow ribbon.

The quilt above is my hunter.

This baby quilt is cotton with a flannel back.  It's been quilted along the lines with baby yarn and the animals have been hand quilted.

              





A quilt made from fleece with a cotton polka dot back.  It has been quilted with yarn.

 These quilts are flannel or fleece and have been tied with a double knot.  I had to get them away and take the picture quickly because they all wanted to wrap up in their blanket.

Quilt Designs

These quilts are made from different fabrics and the back is either flannel or polyester.

This was a quilt that I made to donate to the Veteran's Home.  I used patriotic material in cottons and polyester.

I made the quilt, pillows and pillow shams to match.

Quilt Blocks

QUILT   BLOCKS:
(I was in a Quilt Block Club.  We were given a design and one small piece of material for one part of the design.  We were to create the rest of the design.)

  

 

Some quilt squares were found with some extra pieces of the same material.  Using additional material and some thoughtful design this quilt was created.  It's cotton with a light blue floral back.
