More Baby Quilts

 

I love making baby quilts.  Although they take time, it's not as much time as a big quilt takes.  When I do the rag quilts I just cut and fray the edges also.  Here is a boy quilt I did for my friend.  (She picked the material and it turned out really cute.)  I cut a square 8x8 for the top and the same for the bottom and then I cut the batting (lowloft) 6.5x6.5.  That's why you sew it together with an x or several lines, so the batting doesn't slip and make the quilt bulky.

I tried a different finish on this pink baby quilt.  I did a rag quilt with 6 inch squares.  (It's a lot more to clip so beware.)  And then I used fleece to border it with and did a hem stitch to finish it off.  I love soft furry things so I thought the fleece just added a special touch.  This quilt is a crib sized quilt.  The rest of the quilt was made with my odds and ends of pink flannel.  I especially love the bright pinks I added to each side. 

 This quilt is made with yellow flannel prints.  I love the bring plad print I found for the back of the quilt.This quilt is made suing eight inch squares.  I did use some yellow checked gingham on the front.  I tried to make one picture rather big so you could how fluffy cutting each square looks after it ravels and rags in the washer and dryer.  My only warning with these quilts is the first few times you wash them, it needs to be separately and you need to check your lint filter frequently.
